The UFC fighter rankings have only been around for a few years but already they have taken over the conversation in the UFC. They represent a solid expectation of where a fighter stands in his or her division. It is a ranking to see who the top 15 fighters in each division are and when fighters look at their next opponent they can see where that fighter ranks and if they can move up with a win. When an unranked fighter gets someone in the top 10 it is a major opportunity for them to move up and achieve the ultimate goal of every fight, a title.

The UFC on FX 7 was a chance for one veteran of the octagon to take his shot at the ultimate goal and the ultimate challenge. The main event would be a matchup between Vitor Belfort and Michael Bisping with Bisping getting his chance at a title shot. Bisping has been in the UFC since he won The Ultimate Fighter in 2006.

The middleweight division is one of the least competitive in the UFC but it is not for lack of talent in the weight class. Some of the best fighters in the world reside in the UFC’s middleweight division and yet the belt has rarely changed hands. That is because the greatest fight in the UFC and the best middleweight to step into an octagon is the current champion.
