The league has enjoyed a period of parity but the 53rd Vanier Cup is a dream matchup between two of the biggest programs in University football both this year and for the past decade as two football factories face-off to determine the best in the country.

In the year of the Big Four it seems only fitting that the only two big four teams remain fighting to the last game of the season. The Calgary Dinos and the Laval Rouge et Or are the two teams that have survived through the CIS season to earn their spot in the Vanier Cup and it seems no surprise that they are left as the only two teams left. The season would begin with the stories of the Big Four teams who were all going for at least three conference titles in a row.

The 2012 CIS season has seen one thing dominate the season and that is the consistency to which the season has played out. Last year saw the Calgary Dinos, Acadia Axemen, Laval Rouge et Or, and McMaster Marauders all make the National playoffs. This year it was the same as all four teams repeated as champions in their conference. The similarities continued as the Mitchell and Uteck Bowls saw the McMaster Marauders and Laval Rouge et Or take the wins.
