The talk going in to UFC 165 surrounded the significance of the main even no matter who would win. If Alexander Gustafsson could get past Jones it would be the second time in the last few months where the #1 Pound for Pound fighter in the UFC lost his belt. It would also be the first time a European fighter held a belt in the UFC.

The UFC will see another championship go up for grabs in a season that has seen more changes than ever. The era of the dominant champion seems to be on its way out as two very good champions have already lost their belts.

The UFC has been ravaged by injuries in the past two years and as the injuries continued to pile up one division saw the brunt of it. The Bantamweight division has essentially been without a champion for a little more than a year with Dominick Cruz sitting on the sidelines. As the champion was sidelined the interim belt would be up for grabs between Urijah Faber and Renan Barao.
