Fox Sports 1 Opens with a Bang (UFC Fight Night 26 Review)

The UFC would open their new home with UFC Fight Night 26 as the UFC would put together a great card to debut Fox Sports 1. It was another move for the UFC as they would essentially gain their own channel on a major network. Although the UFC is not the only part to the new sports network there is a reason why Fox decided to open up with a day of UFC leading up to UFC Fight Night 26. The UFC is still on the fringe of sports with many people still wary of the sport that pays people to beat each other up.

Wrestling Comes Back in the Bayou

There has been an interesting trend in the past events in the UFC as the art of the submission has seemed to fade away. Even in Brazil where Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is king there were no submissions in the entire night. The casual fan has been happy to see this as the Knockouts have gone up and the standup fights are increasing. This is not MMA however as MMA is about the total of every style of fighting including the wrestling aspect and this wrestling aspect can be just as exciting as the standup game. The ground game has disappeared as of late but in the Battle on the Bayou it was made clear early in the undercard that the ground game is back.

In a strange week where a #1 contender in the welterweight division was stripped of his title shot the UFC is finally back to fighting. With Nick Diaz losing his title shot due to a no-show at the press conferences for UFC 137 Carlos Condit earned the fight. With these two fighters at the top for now there are still a number of fighters that are looking to get that shot at one of the best fighters in the world in GSP. With the welterweight division in full focus the Battle on the Bayou fits right in as two of the top welterweight fighters will face off.
