The UFC has had an interesting year in 2014 as upsets have been the highlight of fights so far this year. No upset was bigger than when Renan Barao lost grip of his Bantamweight Title that everyone believed he would hold until he faced a returning Dominick Cruz. When you beat the man that most people consider to be the greatest fighter in UFC history a big target is painted on your back. That is the case for Chris Weidman as he would beat Anderson Silva not once but twice in 2013. It was long thought that Anderson Silva would never lose the title and that he would retire as the greatest champion in UFC history. Then came along Chris Weidman who would take full advantage of Silva’s mistakes and his cockiness. The first fight between the two would see Silva begin trying to goat Weidman into getting aggressive and making a mistake.

Setback after setback would plague the champion and Barao would continue to take out the top contenders in the division waiting for his shot at Cruz. Another setback in Cruz’s recovery would mean that yet another fight between the champion and the interim champion would be cancelled.

Decisions Dominate Super Saturday (UFC 169 Review)

Urijah Faber was one of the very first faces of MMA when he was a part of the WEC and began his sponsorship deal with Amp Energy Drink. For many he would be the first exposure to the sport as he was the guy in the WEC and was the guy when MMA began to take hold of more fans. He would get to this level in large part because he was one of the best lighter weight fighters in the world and would prove it as the WEC Featherweight Champion in 2006.
