It has been the year of the upset in the UFC with some of the most dominant champions taking a back seat to the underdogs. Big names continue to fall and it seems that no matter who they face there is always a sense that their opponent can beat them. The biggest one so far was in the Bantamweight division where T.J. Dillashaw came out of seemingly nowhere to take on Renan Barao for the title. Dillashaw had been a good fighter but did not seem like he deserved a shot just yet but he walked into the octagon like he belonged against a champion that many were just assuming would beat him and wait for Dominick Cruz to get back

The UFC continued their expansion of The Ultimate fighter when they added The Ultimate Fighter: Nations to the long list of seasons. The new season would feature two countries against each other as Canada and Australia would provide the fighters for the new season. As usual the show was meant to add some more fighters to the roster of the UFC and in this case was an attempt to add more Aussies and Canadians to the roster.

The Ultimate Fighter is now a staple for all UFC fans as the reality show has become a constant for the UFC and has almost become a minor leagues for the big promotion. The fighters that are a part of the reality show can become big names in the UFC and every time that the show premieres there is a new crop of potential fighters that may enter the UFC. As the show continues to get bigger the UFC looks to new places to find a new crop of fighters. They would start the new pattern when they created TUF Brazil in 2012 and followed with TUF Smashes later in the same year.

The sports world loves to compare the act of playing a sport to a battle and to war as the comparisons are constant. Every close game is considered a battle and players consider themselves entering a war when they get ready to play. It is a very common comparison and in some ways it is understood.

The UFC will once again return to a military base as they honour those men and women in the military with Fight for the Troops. For the UFC it is something that they have tried to be a part of the military world for years. They have tried to be a part of this world because the military world and the MMA world are natural friends which it is evident in the number of active and inactive members of the armed forces in the UFC ranks.
