The NFL wild card weekend was a display of the myth of home field advantage as for the first time ever in the playoffs no home team won a game.

At one point the NFC West was looking to be the best division in football with teams continuing to get better and challenge for the division title.

The Battle of the Bay has not been the usual close battle that many fans have hoped for time and time again. A big part of that is the evolution of the 49ers into one of the elite teams of the NFL. They have been close multiple times in the last few years to winning a Super Bowl but have fallen just short. Despite their inability to win the big game the Niners have remained one of the most dangerous teams in the NFL and have consistently been the better team in their matchups with Oakland.

So it begins, the biggest question heading into the NFL season has been answered and has had much of the expected result. Going into 2014 it was all about Johnny Manziel and when he would get to start for the woeful Browns. Many believed it wouldn’t be until around this time in the season when the Browns were out of the playoff hunt and ready to see what they had in the young exciting star. That was not exactly the case in Week 13 though as the Browns are far from the worst team in the league and still have a chance.

The NFC West was once the worst in the league only a few years ago as they were home to some terrible teams. They could produce one good team every year and had some teams make it to the Super Bowl but the competition was never that good. The rest of the teams did not put up much of a fight against the top team in the division and it was essentially a free win when top teams played them. Lately though that has all changed as the NFC West has become the best division in the NFL and they proved that last season.

The NFC West has come a long way since the time that they were the joke of the NFC with terrible teams. There have been the odd strong team in the NFC West as some teams have broken out to have great seasons. Every year that a team has gone to the Super Bowl the other three have given almost no resistance to the division champions. All of that has changed though as the NFC Wet has become one of the most competitive and toughest divisions in the league.

The NFL is a league that rewards the flashy players as the “skilled” players are the ones who touch the ball the most. These players, the quarterbacks, wide receivers, and running backs, will always get the headlines and the focus. Throughout the season the stats and the talk all surround these players while the other players like the lineman sit back and rarely get talked about.

It has quickly become a main focus in the NFL and throughout the sports world and is the leading cause to the drop in amateur football registrations. It is the concussion issue that has been the topic of conversation among analysts and fans alike. It took a major hold in the 2010 season when one Sunday saw a number of players get knocked unconscious.
