Rivalry week provided little in the way of a major shake-up but that didn’t stop some big changes in coaching staffs throughout the NCAA.

Week 1 in the NCAA season is typically one where the top teams get their chance to beat up on a Division-I FCS team. With no preseason teams generally take the first week as a chance to find a team that they can easily win against. That means that they can make a mistake in the game and not really pay too badly because the level of the other team is nowhere near as high. It is considered a warm up game for most and the NCAA teams used to take full advantage before they began their bigger schedules.

It has been said time and time again when talking about the NCAA as the Southeastern Conference has been considered the best conference in the league. Every year it seems that SEC teams are all at the top of the heap when the BCS rankings come out. The Alabama Crimson Tide have been the class of the conference and the NCAA over the last four years winning three National Championships in the last four years. Despite all of the success for the conference a disturbing trend is beginning to surface for the conference.

The Heisman Trophy is one of the most legendary trophies in football as it has been given out since 1935. The trophy has evolved over time as it has always been handed out to the best player in the NCAA. What that means is what has evolved over time as the best player in the NCAA has become a much larger debate. The best player in the NCAA has always been considered the best offensive player in the league.

The NCAA is in the heart of their season as every game becomes that much more important and schedules get even tougher. As every game gets much more important the pressure is amped up as a loss can mean the end to any hopes of a BCS bowl. For some teams the pressure is welcomed as they only step up in the times where they need a win.

NCAA Football has had a rough offseason after numerous problems arose and made it to the public eye. The biggest thing has been the never-ending flow of reports of recruiting infractions and illegal activities in the NCAA. One of the biggest issues has come out of Ohio State where players sold merchandise in exchange for tattoos. This infraction has led to legendary coach Jim Tressel retiring and Terrell Pryor leaving the team to enter the NFL supplemental draft. It may also lead to major sanctions against the program that could include anything from the removal of scholarships to a ban on attending bowls and forfeiting wins much like at USC. It could also lead to the worst sanction of all known as the death penalty, although that is unlikely as it has only been invoked once against SMU.
