The Olympics would officially end on Day 16 as the Closing Ceremonies would officially end the spectacular two-week display of winter sports. In the last day of the games the Canadians would take home the gold in the premier event of the games. They would beat the Swedes 3-0 in the gold medal hockey game while Russia would sweep the Men’s 50km Cross-Country race, and would take the gold in the four-man bobsled. They were the last few events in the Olympic program for another four years as Russia would say goodbye to the biggest sporting event in Russian history.

When the 2014 Winter Olympics leave Sochi the media will follow and the majority of the fans will leave but it will not be the end of the games. After the Closing Ceremonies of this major event a host of new people will show up in Sochi for their own chance at glory. Two weeks after the Winter Olympics close the 2014 Winter Paralympics will begin in a much smaller but still very important week of games. Olympic athletes are considered the best athletes in the world but nobody in the Winter Olympics has had to overcome the same obstacles as those in the Paralympics

Countries continue to race to the end of these Olympics but the committees of many countries have a big decision to make before it is all over. Countries must decide one of the biggest honours in the Olympics as the closing ceremony flag bearer is still to be decided. Every Olympics each country decides which athlete will carry the flag in to the arena during the opening and closing ceremonies. Generally the opening ceremony flag bearer is an athlete that has put some time into their countries efforts. These are athletes that have been in the Olympics before and have done well for their country.

Day 11 in the Olympics would feature a few more meal events than many days as the weather at Sochi would take its toll the day before. That meant that it was a big day for more athletes than usual as they would get their chance to step onto an Olympic podium.

It was only a matter of time until the weather became an even bigger issue in the Olympics and in Day 10 that would happen. A weather front would move in to Sochi creating fog in many of the mountain courses. For the second time in two days the Men’s Biathlon 15km Mass Start would be postponed to the next day while the Men’s Snowboard Cross would be cancelled and moved to Day 11. It has been a big story from before the Olympics began as the warm weather of Sochi would be a concern for many.

There is no question that the Olympics are the biggest sporting event right now as the entire spots world has seemingly paused for the games. Every year that the Olympics are on the same thing happens as the focus turns to the greatest displays of sports in the world. The athletes nobody sees for four years become heroes while sports that nobody cares about in between the Olympics suddenly become main draws. It is the Olympic phenomena and because of this popularity there is always a battle to become the official sponsor or official supplier of the Olympics or an Olympic team.

Day 8 is over in the Olympics and the games have reached their halfway point with 8 more days until the focus of the sports world leaves Sochi. It has been a great games by all accounts so far with many of the worries before the games not making any big stories during the games. It was to be expected though as the reports of terrible accommodations and the issues in Russia itself have given way to the games and the athletes. It is one of the only sure things in the Olympics as there are always a number of issues that become the talk of the Olympics before the game begin.
