The NHL is quickly becoming a young man’s game as the days of the veterans dominating the league are fading away. It is now the young players who are taking over and dominating the league as they are the new generation of superstars. It wasn’t long ago when young players spent the majority of their first years after being drafted sitting in the AHL. They would do this to help develop their skills at the lower levels before being thrown into the fire of the NHL.

The realignment has been a big story in the preseason as new divisions mean new opponents and new rivalries. This change in alignment for the NHL would all come down to one thing as one team’s move would require a massive change. The Atlanta Thrashers were struggling in 2011 and instead of fighting two battles, Phoenix would go under NHL ownership, the NHL decided that they would give up.

The NHL is ever changing and as the league continues to grow it continues to become that much more complex. It wasn’t so long ago when the key to winning a Stanley Cup was adding veteran players to a team that could bring the experience needed to win in the league.

The World Juniors only has two pools every year but that doesn’t mean that there is no death pool. This pool is Pool B in 2013 as the big three of the Juniors are all in one pool that will likely produce the 2013 champion. Usually the tournament will feature even pools where there are generally two strong teams and a third that is a good team.
