The Metropolitan Division does not have the most popular name in the NHL as many did not like it when the NHL announced the new division last year. Yet there is no other name that could describe this division any better. It is exactly that, a Metropolitan division with some of the biggest cities in the NHL in the division. New York is represented with their two teams alongside New Jersey from across the Hudson. Pittsburgh and Philadelphia also have their cities represented in the division.

With realignment in the NHL the teams began preparing for a new season with brand new opponents while the fans wondered what their divisions might be called. The realignment was not the only big story in the offseason as the names of these new divisions was also a popular topic of debate. The NHL would announce the official realignment and also the new names for these division. Most would be the usual names but one would be a complete change as the Metropolitan Division was born.

The Season That Almost Wasn’t (NHL Season in Review)

October is a great sports month for any sports fan as it can be the busiest time of year for the sports world. The National Football League is in the second month of their season, Major League Baseball is in the midst of the playoffs, and the National Basketball Association is just beginning their season. The Central division has quickly become a powerhouse in the NHL with four of the five teams making the playoffs last year. The division has become one of the most dominant in the Western Conference and this year they are looking to continue that trend. The Detroit Red Wings have regularly led the way in this division as the most consistent team.

The Atlantic Division is the powerhouse of the NHL but not for their play on the ice as they are much better known for what they do off of the ice. The Atlantic Division is one of the biggest reasons that the NHL made $3.3 Billion last season. This division features some of the biggest franchises in the USA and teams that have some big followings.

NHL Week in Review (Oct. 23-29)

This week in the NHL saw a flashback to the 1980s when the Philadelphia Flyers and the Winnipeg Jets faced off. The two teams came together on opposite ends of the spectrum in the NHL. The Winnipeg Jets are a major story in the NHL, especially in Canada, as the new team on the block and the 8th Canadian team in the league.
