The Chicago Cubs are the first team in the postseason clinching their spot this week but they still have a ways to go before they can break the longest championship drought in sports.

The NL West has always been a division highlighted by a battle between two top teams but this year there may be a third team throwing their hats into the ring making this battle more interesting.

The sports world is just getting over “Deflategate,” at least until the NFL returns in September, but leave to MLB to fill the gap in sports controversy.

The National League West is home to the new dynasty in the MLB but it is far from a division dominated by that team.

In every major league in North America there are the haves and the have nots and more often than not the difference can be seen in the divisions. There are the great divisions that seem to pump out championship team after championship team like in the AL East. Then there are the divisions that seem to be given a postseason spot for being the best of the worst.

The NFL took one more step towards the Super Bowl as eight teams played the Divisional round to earn a spot in the conference championships. The weekend was not the same fast paced surprise filled weekend of the wild card with more predictable outcomes this week. The matchups were perfect settings for upsets this week as the top teams in the league would look to move on to the conference championships.

As the MLB season continues to move on through the first two weeks of the season the debates continue to rage on. It may only be a couple of weeks into the season but one such debate has been going since before the season began. This is the debate over running the catcher which is a long standing tradition and a hotly debated topic year after year.

The National League West does not really compare to its cousin from the American League but it does contain some major contenders. They would like to be the same division as the American League but the reality is they are far off. The division is essentially a two horse race as there are only two teams that can win this division and after those two the talent drops off.
