The signing of Eric Reid could be a shift in the attitude of the NFL towards protests that have been dominating the headlines for years but nothing is over quite yet.

The NFL is underway and for one team off field issues are keeping the talent off of the field and potentially ruining the window for one of the most talented teams in the NFL.

The AFC East remains a division ruled by one team but everyone else may be starting to come up and challenge them as plenty of teams are trying to catch the Patriots.

The AFC South has characterized by one dominant team at a time while the rest of the teams try to figure things out. The top team generally runs away with the division without much of a battle and the rest of the teams fall off far from the playoffs. For years that team was the Indianapolis Colts led by Peyton Manning. The Colts were the only team in the division every year and despite a few challenges from the Tennessee Titans every now and then, they were the only team in the division. The thing about that was that although they were the only team in the division they were also favourites to win a Super Bowl.

The AFC East has had one ruling body in the past decade as the New England Patriots have been the dominant team in the East. The division is going through changes this year though as the team that was always perfect has joined the dysfunction of the AFC East. The East is a strange place in the AFC as it is full of teams that can seem to figure it out while the controversy continues to surround the entire division.

The Rust Belt is a term that many people have heard in the U.S. and it refers to the North Eastern part of the U.S. who rely on the manufacturing industry. This term also refers to the teams in the NFL that lie in this belt. The term has become a true expression of the teams in the area that include the Buffalo Bills, Cleveland Browns, and Detroit Lions. The name rings true to the performances of these teams in the past years as all three have been at the bottom of the NFL for years including the Detroit Lions breaking the record for most losses in 2008 going 0-16. This year these Rust Belt teams are beginning to give their fans something to cheer about for once as they are looking to be strong contenders to make the playoffs.

The NFL makes a living off of the stories that they can talk about throughout the season and every season it seems like they continue to get more stories. This year seems to be a year of surprises as in week 2 in the NFL there were more surprises than week 1. The biggest surprises in the young NFL season are two teams that have come out to an undefeated start. The Buffalo Bills and Washington Redskins have not been the most powerful of opponents in the last few years as they have regularly been at the bottom of the league. This year they are both out to a great start as they have both gone undefeated but have not done it easily.
