Submission Special in Halifax (UFC Fight Night 54 Review)
The UFC travelled to Halifax for the first time ever and for both fighters in the main card it was a massive opportunity. For Rory MacDonald it was the first time that he would have the main stage in a UFC fight. He had never been in a main event despite being the #2 ranked fighter in the welterweight division. That came to an end in Halifax where he would be the highlight of the card. More than that, he was also be fighting in front of his home fans as the British Columbia Native has become one of the biggest faces of the Canadian fight world.
UFC Fight Night 54 Preview
The UFC will travel to the East Coast in the second of a double-header on Saturday when they go farther east then they have ever been in North America. Halifax, Nova Scotia will play host to the UFC for the first time ever as they host UFC Fight Night 54. As usual when the UFC travels to a new place they bring out as big a card as they can and what better way to say hello to Halifax than to bring along the biggest Canadian fighter in the UFC.
Dominance in BC (UFC 174 Review)
There is nothing more entertaining than a division that has plenty of turnover at the top of the division with any number of fighters having the possibility of winning the title. It makes the division much more entertaining when a champion goes into a title defence with a lot of doubt. That is not always the case in the UFC though as dominant champions are more common for the promotion. There are a number of divisions that have seen some dominant champions rule over the division and make it more about the question of who can beat the title holder rather than the amount of talent in the division.
UFC 174 Preview
The UFC continues to grow throughout the world as it reaches a plateau in North America and it seems like every year there is a new country getting in on the action. Whether it was the American fighters in the 1990s when the UFC started or the influx of Brazilians later in the decade. There has always been a country that seems to take over the UFC for at least a year if not more. That is happening once again as this year may be the time that Russian fighters take over the UFC.
Lighter Fighters, Same Fireworks (UFC on Fox 8 Review)
It was the lighter weight classes that took focus on the last UFC card on the FOX network, UFC will be moving to Fox Sports 1 as of August 17th. The light weight classes are not known for being the most exciting divisions in the UFC but they would go out and look to change that. AT UFC on Fox 8 there would be only one fight that was Middleweight and nothing at a higher weight class.
UFC on Fox 8 Preview
The Flyweight Division is still a young one with only two title fights in the division and a handful of good fighters. It is one of the youngest divisions in the UFC and it is still finding its footing in the promotion. It is the lightest weight class for the UFC and that can be a good and a bad thing at times. The fighters are small and so their power is not at the level that many fight fans love to see.
