The American League West was supposed to be a pretty goo battle in 2017 but that battle never came to light and this year might be a lot of the same as the West remains a division ruled by one very good team.

The MLB All-Star Game is once again meaningless but it could be a blessing as the players could be allowed to have more fun like they did in Miami this week.

The American League West looked like it was headed to becoming a very competitive division but it never panned out leaving one team on top which is where they hope to stay at the end of 2017 despite the rising of a few teams in the west.

The AL West may not have the same history as their NL counterparts but a rivalry is forming and it could once again define the race in the division.

The American League West was much like its counterpart from the National League as there was a sense that it was falling behind the other divisions. When trying to earn a spot against the AL East it can be a difficult road as it essentially means that the division is the best bet to make the postseason. That can be said for every division but with only two Wild Card spots and the East consistently in the hunt for both other divisions make their division race much more important.

The Season is wrapping up with few teams still able to earn a postseason spot and the rest of the teas preparing for what comes next. In the National League there are no spots left as the postseason is set and most teams know where they stands. The Atlanta Braves and Los Angeles Dodgers will enter the playoffs as division champions while the Cincinnati Reds are sent to the Wild Card game. The Pittsburgh Pirates and St. Louis Cardinals continue to fight for the Central Division with the loser moving to the wild card game against the Reds.

The MLB has never been a league known to change quickly as they have a reputation of being one of the slowest in evolution. Season after season the MLB continues to face problems with a number of issues and season after season they do nothing. One of the biggest issues in recent years has been the officiating as time and time again we see blown calls cost critical games.
