Title races Finally get Moving in Vegas (UFC 181 Review)

There has been a backlog in the UFC for the last year as top talent in big divisions continue to win and go nowhere for their efforts. No matter how impressive their win or how many wins they put together they have been unable to find their way to the title. It has been one of the most frustrating periods for fans and for the UFC in general as fight after fight goes by with less and less titles on the line. For everyone watching and everyone involved in the UFC it is a challenge as they love to put on and watch championship fights. The issue has been the fact that champions have been out of commission for the majority of 2014.

The UFC has had some issues when it comes to a number of weight classes in keeping their title holders fighting. For the last year it has been rare to see many of the titles up for grabs with true title holders in fights. Whether it is injuries or simply that fact that people who win the title tend to take some time off to fix issues. It is a practice that does not make the UFC President very happy but one that is understood. Fighters take a lot of punishment and don’t have a lot of time to take off when they are in pursuit of a title.

Main Card Impresses in San Jose (UFC on FOX 12 Review)

A lot of times in the UFC there are fighters who come into the promotion with plenty of hype and rise up to become contenders almost immediately. These fighters can win only a few fights and if they are impressive wins can get a title shot in almost no time. It has happened time and time again with fighters seemingly bolting up the rankings for a title shot. For some it is not fair as they need to prove themselves but many times they are the best fighters in the division. That causes them to get plenty of talk surrounding them which is how they earn their shots to begin with.

Sometimes the UFC can put on fights that are interesting but do not get anyone excited because they don’t know what to expect. Those fights are necessary for the continuation of the UFC in finding new contenders by putting them under pressure in televised events. Many times they can produce great fights unexpectedly and other times they can produce a card that has no big moments. That has tended to be the case for many of the televised events recently as the UFC has not been able to put on very exciting fights.

New Champ in Big D (UFC 171 Review)

The welterweight division was a bit of a mystery heading into UFC 171 as there was not champion with the rule of Georges St. Pierre over. A lot would be figured out at the fight though when the last #1 contender for the title would look to make good on a second chance while taking on a legend who was hoping his return to the UFC would be topped off by winning a title.

UFC 171 Preview

The welterweight division went from one of the most in control divisions in the UFC to becoming one of the most exciting. The Welterweight division was one of the few divisions that was ruled by one living legend that could seemingly never be beat. Georges St. Pierre was among the greatest fighters in the history of the UFC and was constantly mentioned alongside Anderson Silva as the best pound for pound fighters in the UFC. Then the end of 2013 would happen and the pound for pound list was thrown into disarray.
