The new alignment for the NHL was big for teams like the Detroit Red Wings and Columbus Blue Jackets as they were able to move to their respectful places in the Eastern Conference. It would be the main story for the majority of the preseason when realignment was brought up. These teams would finally get a move to a place where they belonged rather than staying in the west and having another bad travel schedule.

The first round of the NHL playoffs has come to an end while the second round has started up with only 8 teams left in the hunt for the Stanley Cup. These teams will look to win another 12 games to win the cup and will have to go through some very tough battles to achieve their goals. This is the round where the grit will shine through as one round has taken its toll on the remaining teams and the players.

There was no question that the conversation would start this year and that it would not take long to start. As soon as the talk of the CBA would finish and the talk about what the short season would do to teams the next subject up would always be violence in the game. The NHL is in a very unique place in this debate as the battle against violence in sports has come to every contact sport.

The NHL playoffs took a turn last weekend as the usual intense skilled playoff hockey turned into an all out brawl. The playoffs are usually a very intense period in the calendar as every game becomes important. One loss in a bad way could mean the end of any momentum you had built up during the regular season. This makes every player a little more wound up than usual and that forces them to do things they may not do usually.
