UFC 183 was the chance for everyone to see the return of Anderson Silva and, to a lesser extent, the return of Nick Diaz. Both men had been out of the octagon for over a year, albeit for much different reasons. Silva was coming off of a broken leg that forced him out for just over a year while Diaz had decided not to return to the UFC unless he was able to get a big name fight. Both were making their return to the octagon to plenty of fanfare and in essence the matchup was between two very different people.

The UFC has started their year off with some massive fights but UFC 183 will be one of the most anticipated fights of the year. Most of the excitement has been built due to the return of the most dominant champion in UFC history. Anderson Silva was the most dominant fighter to ever step into the octagon winning the middleweight title in his second fight in the UFC.

UFC 158 was a time that many fans and two fighters would finally bury the hatchet and bring an end to a long time grudge. Georges St. Pierre has been the champion for years and is widely considered one of the best fighters in the world. He is not without a few detractors though and one of the loudest was Nick Diaz who would call out the champion while St. Pierre was injured.

Never has a poster expressed a main event so well than the UFC 158 poster that perfectly captures what this fight is all about. UFC 158 is about Georges St. Pierre finally getting the monkey off of his back known as Nick Diaz. In 2011 St. Pierre would be scheduled to fight Nick Diaz for the Welterweight title at UFC 137. Then in a very strange series of event Diaz would decide not to show up for the press conference.

Georges St. Pierre had become one of those fighters in the UFC, the fighter that cleans out a division and has few challengers. There are only a few of these fighters in the UFC as Anderson Silva is a perfect example after he has cleared out the middleweight division.

It has been a very strange few months for the top of the welterweight division as there have been almost a number of different matchups. It all started at UFC 137 last October when Nick Diaz would make his debut in the UFC against welterweight champions Georges St. Pierre. Except that is not what happened as Diaz had his title shot pulled due to his absence at two press conferences leading up to the fight.

UFC 137 saw three fights be made for their main event after Nick Diaz flaked on two press conferences without telling anyone and Georges St. Pierre suffered an injury during training. After the smoke cleared the main event would feature Nick Diaz who received his main event after all and BJ Penn who was looking to make one more run at the championship. The respect was there before the fight as Diaz had said he looked up to Penn before he became a fighter. During the weigh-in the fighters seemed to lose that respect after Diaz bumped heads with Penn and both fighters were separated.

The artist who makes the fight posters was busy over the last few months and not only because there were a lot of fights. There was a stretch of 4 fights at the beginning of the month and there will be another stretch of 4 events starting with UFC 137. This was the least of the artist’s worries as the poster for UFC 137 took enough work with the fight changing three times.
