NHL Week in Review (January 18-24)

The NHL took another break this week with the All-Star weekend in full swing but they did not stay silent for the entire week. The NHL decided that this was the perfect time to announce the return of the World Cup of Hockey. It is far from a classic tournament as it began in 1996 and was only played twice, the last tournament was in 2004. With only two years of the tournament it has never been able to gain the traction that the NHL had hoped to find when they first introduced the tournament.

NHL Week in Review (January 26-February 1)

It was another week where two games took focus over everything else as the stadium Series continued. The entire idea of the Stadium Series was to highlight the game to the USA by putting them in amazing stadiums. The stadiums became the focus of the series and they would kick it off in one of the most legendary stadiums in North America. Dodger Stadium had played host to some of the best moments in MLB history and in American sports history so it only seemed fitting that it would host a major game in the legendary stadium.

The offseason for the NHL was much less nerve racking for fans as there was no debate surrounding the start of the season. Instead of an offseason full of meetings between people in suits this season was about preparation for a new season. That doesn’t mean that the offseason didn’t have its share of meetings between people with suits but the CBA was not the main conversation.
