The NHL playoffs have been a wild ride this year and with round 1 complete it is time to take a look back at what happened. It was a fast and furious month in the first round with surprises seeming to come out every day. There was skill and amazing goals and also some gritty play that bordered on, and sometimes crossed, the line of illegal.

In October every NHL team had hopes of making the playoffs and as the months wore on that number seemed to lessen. Now the NHL season is over leaving 16 teams to continue their dreams in the playoffs while 14 teams go home with nothing. The playoffs did not come down to the last day but close to it with Thursday seeing the end of the hopes for many teams.
