The NFL season is officially done but for many on the sidelines that means the scariest time of the year. It has become known as Black Monday and it marks the day where coaches and general managers lose their jobs. It is the day after the last week ends and for many teams the decision has already been made heading into the final week of the season. To avoid rocking the boat on a team that is still trying to win games, whether or not they are trying to make the playoffs.

The NFC North has been one of the tougher division to compete in and although it always seems to come down to the wire. For the last three years the Green Bay Packers have been at the top of the division although they have not been able to run away with it for the last two years. The Chicago Bears have been right behind them every step of the way in the last few years as they continue their rivalry with the Packers.

The NFC North has been known as the Black and Blue Division as they have some of the oldest and most traditional teams in the league. There is a lot of history in this division as all four teams have had their own stamp on the NFL. Although these are some of the more traditional team there is a lot of new age in this division. The North is full of some of the best teams in the league and as usual it will be one of the best races in the league.

The year is one month closer to turning the calendar into 2013 and for the NFL that means the always intimidating month of December. December is the last full month of the season and for some teams it can mean the beginning of the end for their season. It is a month where teams need to put up or shut up as it marks the beginning of the playoff race.

The beginning of this NFL is far behind us and with the playoffs creeping up fast the trends have changed. At the beginning of the year it seemed the NFC North was unstoppable with Green Bay playing great, Chicago being their usual surprise contenders, and Detroit being the biggest surprise of the year with a great undefeated start to the season.

The NFL is full of different personalities some loud and in your face and other silent and overlooked. There are players who love to talk whether it is just for the sake of talking or for the added edge it may give them while playing the game. Others just like to let their play do the talking as they say nothing even when provoked but get even with their tough play. The focus of player’s attitudes is what many people focus on but there is another type of attitude.

The Rust Belt is a term that many people have heard in the U.S. and it refers to the North Eastern part of the U.S. who rely on the manufacturing industry. This term also refers to the teams in the NFL that lie in this belt. The term has become a true expression of the teams in the area that include the Buffalo Bills, Cleveland Browns, and Detroit Lions. The name rings true to the performances of these teams in the past years as all three have been at the bottom of the NFL for years including the Detroit Lions breaking the record for most losses in 2008 going 0-16. This year these Rust Belt teams are beginning to give their fans something to cheer about for once as they are looking to be strong contenders to make the playoffs.
