The MLB Wild Card has been one of the most controversial aspects of the postseason since it was expanded in 2012 and to this day despite the excitement it provides it remains a massive debate every year that the postseason begins.

The MLB postseason is here and the sprint to the World Series has officially begun with the wild card games done and the Division Series underway. The MLB once again go into the postseason with the fairly new wild card games. In the third year of these games the debate still rages on about whether or not they are a good idea. For one side it is the fact that after 162 games everything can come down to one game. In a sport that only does series a single game elimination can seem strange.

The MLB season finished up this week and once again it would go to the final day, plus one more, to figure out the postseason picture. The MLB season is a 162 game marathon that takes a full 6 months to finish and can be a real grind on players and on fans. There are points in the season where the long grind gets to players and fans in the Dogs Days of Summer.

Another year under the new system and another thrilling result as the two-wild card system once again came down to the end of the year. The new system has been a successful one so far with plenty of drama near the end of the season. The system was created to do exactly that as they were hoping to create more competition at the end of the season and avoid the boring Septembers.

The MLB season is officially finished as the San Francisco Giants took home the top prize for the second time in three years. It was a season full of controversy and of great stories that continued an era and began a new one. The Pitcher era was continue this year as the pitchers took control of the league yet again.

The MLB started on a new path this week as the first ever Wild Card Games took place to determine the last playoff spot. These Wild Card games were created at the beginning of the season as the MLB looked for a way to add some more excitement to the postseason. A lot of the reasoning had to do with the way the 2011 season ended when everything came down to a few games in the league.

The MLB is beginning their last push to the postseason where teams become mathematically eliminated or begin to clinch their playoff spots. As this begins to happen many teams become irrelevant in the last few weeks of the season as they play teams that are already going to make the playoffs while they have no shot.

As the MLB Season creeps into crunch time teams are put into certain spots in the psyche of the MLB world. Some teams become the basement dwellers who will have no hope of making the postseason. These teams begin to look to the future around this point in the season as they concentrate on prospects that they can bring up to get some experience in the majors.

The Boys of summer are coming back as Major League Baseball kicks off another season. Last year gave everyone enough to talk about as the season came down to the very end. With such a long season the playoffs rarely come down to the very last day but that is exactly what happened in 2011.
