The NHL saw the end of an amazing career this week and the end of what became a man trying to hold on to the thing he loved. Martin Brodeur will go down as the greatest goaltender ever with almost ever record that a goalie can take. There is no doubt that he will find his way into the Hall of Fame as soon as he can and he will be mentioned among the legends of the sport. His time in the NHL was clearly coming to an end in the last few years as he was no longer the dominant goaltender he used to be.

The NHL continues to grow and despite many teams in the south struggling to get by there is one area that is not following suit with other non-traditional markets. The west coast of the USA, or more accurately California, was never a hockey market when the Los Angeles Kings entered the NHL in 1967. It was one of the first major expansions in the NHL and they would look to the West Coast to add two teams.

Sometimes it is best to go with your first instinct as a blogger that does predictions and I have learned this with the NHL season. In my 2011-12 season preview I predicted a Los Angeles vs. Philadelphia Stanley Cup Finals. I changed my tune though when it came to the playoffs as I then looked to a Nashville vs. Pittsburgh Finals.
