UFC 168 Preview

The UFC will be ending their year with a massive card and with it the reminders of an era gone by in 2013. The year began with what many would consider the most dominant group of champions ever assembled. A number of weight divisions would see their champions solidify their spot in 2012 and there did not seem to be much change coming.

An Empty Division Once Again (UFC 148 Review)

The UFC has had a tradition of long reigning champions with Tito Ortiz, Matt Hughes, Chuck Liddell, Georges St. Pierre, and Anderson Silva. Throughout the years that these men stood atop their divisions they have been able to empty out the division.

Yet another rivalry is finally solved in the UFC as one of the most intense rivalries comes back for UFC 148. The UFC has put together some big rivalries in the past few events but it will all come to a head this Saturday when Anderson Silva takes on Chael Sonnen.

Decisions, Decisions; Until the Main Event

UFC 136 had a thrilling card with a full card of good fights and many of them saw the full three, or five, rounds. On the entire card the fans saw three finished fights while the rest finished in a decision. Usually this can be boring but not in Houston as every fight was good and meant something to every fighter involved. Of course the biggest fights were at the end of the night when two belts were up for the taking. The Featherweight Title and the Lightweight Title were both up for grabs as the UFC saw two very quick and tough fights.

No BJJ Needed in Rio

The UFC made a long awaited return to the home of Mixed Martial Arts on Saturday for UFC 134. Brazil had been waiting for the top MMA promotion to return for over a decade and UFC finally decided to make their wish come true. Ever since Brazilian Royce Gracie brought Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) to MMA nothing has been the same. Now BJJ has become a must for fighters who wish to be successful in the UFC and the Gracies are still a major part of this training. With this popularity one would have assumed that BJJ would be on display at UFC 134 with at least one Brazilian in every fight.
