When the 2014 Winter Olympics leave Sochi the media will follow and the majority of the fans will leave but it will not be the end of the games. After the Closing Ceremonies of this major event a host of new people will show up in Sochi for their own chance at glory. Two weeks after the Winter Olympics close the 2014 Winter Paralympics will begin in a much smaller but still very important week of games. Olympic athletes are considered the best athletes in the world but nobody in the Winter Olympics has had to overcome the same obstacles as those in the Paralympics

The Olympics are a week old and are approaching the halfway mark as athletes and countries have had their chance to put their best foot forward. With plenty of stories so far in the Olympics there has been a lot to talk about while certain countries are happy with their performance and others are not so pleased.

In Day 6 of the Sochi Olympics the sport that many had been waiting for, both in Russia and around the world, would start. The Men’s hockey tournament has always been one of the most popular winter sports in the Olympics. A large part of this has been the fact that it is the only sport in the Winter Olympics that features athletes from one of the major leagues in the world.

When trying to win a bid for the Olympic Games countries look to pull out all the stops to impress the IOC and earn the chance to host the games. Many times countries use this process to try and improve a city or to create a centre for sports in the country. That has happened many times as many cities have taken the Olympics and translated it to becoming the centre for those season Olympics in their countries.

There is always a concentration on the Medal Table in the Olympics as fans look to see if their country is better at sports that others. The Olympics breed a competitive attitude and for many the overall medal leader is the goal to aim for. For others it is about a better finish than they are used to or medals in places that they expect.
