Day 11 in the Olympics would feature a few more meal events than many days as the weather at Sochi would take its toll the day before. That meant that it was a big day for more athletes than usual as they would get their chance to step onto an Olympic podium.

The UFC made their first trip to Calgary this weekend as they held UFC 149 in the Saddledome bringing another fight to the Canadian fans. For many though the card was a shadow of its former self with injuries changing almost every fight in the card. In some last second problem solving by the UFC fights were rescheduled and rematched to put together a pretty good card.

There has been an interesting trend in the past events in the UFC as the art of the submission has seemed to fade away. Even in Brazil where Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is king there were no submissions in the entire night. The casual fan has been happy to see this as the Knockouts have gone up and the standup fights are increasing. This is not MMA however as MMA is about the total of every style of fighting including the wrestling aspect and this wrestling aspect can be just as exciting as the standup game. The ground game has disappeared as of late but in the Battle on the Bayou it was made clear early in the undercard that the ground game is back.
