The Central division saw a facelift in 2013-14 and with the adjustment of teams it was expected that one would rule them all. The Chicago Blackhawks had been the rulers of the old Central division for years and have been Stanley Cup favourites for the same amount of time. They went into last year as favourites again to win a division with a lot of questions. They seemed like the only sure shot in the division that was full of young teams and unsure talent. Then the season started and a team that many thought as a rebuilding team began to take control of the division.

The Atlantic Division is a mix of some of the best teams and some of the worst teams in the NHL as the division is one of the hardest to figure out. On one end of the spectrum lies the Boston Bruins, Tampa Bay Lightning, and Montreal Canadiens. These three teams have proven to be some of the most talented teams in the league over the last few years. The Bruins are the team that leads the pack with one of the best combinations of skill and toughness that make them a true contender in the Stanley Cup playoffs. Meanwhile the Lightning and Canadiens have been built with skill in mind as both are loaded with offensive talent although the toughness has suffered on both of the teams.

The NHL week seemed to be business as usual for all teams until one player on one of the best surprises of the season would change the week. The Colorado Avalanche have had a great season so far as they are among the top teams in the league. The season was never supposed to go like this for the team as most expected them to falter with a number of young inexperienced players. Not to mention that a new coach with no NHL experience in Patrick Roy taking over for his first year.

With realignment in the NHL the teams began preparing for a new season with brand new opponents while the fans wondered what their divisions might be called. The realignment was not the only big story in the offseason as the names of these new divisions was also a popular topic of debate. The NHL would announce the official realignment and also the new names for these division. Most would be the usual names but one would be a complete change as the Metropolitan Division was born.
