The Future is Now

The saying goes “You are not a champion until you defend your belt” and this is what Jon Jones, the youngest UFC champion in UFC history, was faced with. The Light Heavyweight championship had exchanged hands more than any other belt in recent history as since Chuck Liddell had it only one fight has ever defended it successfully. In the era of GSPs and Silvas the fact that a championship could change hands so much is almost unthinkable. The Light Heavyweight division is one of the most competitive in the UFC but when Jon Jones beat Mauricio Rua for the belt many believed it was the beginning of the Light Heavyweight lockdown. Jones had a challenge ahead of him however as the champion would take on the last man to defend the belt successfully in Quinton “Rampage” Jackson.

What 2 Watch (Sept. 23-25)

The second week of What 2 Watch features a jam packed weekend full of great action in the sports world. The NFL has a number of great matchups but the oldest rivalry in the league will be the focal point. NCAA is also underway and the marquee matchup will be between two ranked teams that can reshape the Top 25. Meanwhile the CFL is on the other side of their league as they continue their playoff push as they move out to the East Coast for their annual Touchdown Atlantic Game.

UFC 135 Preview

The Title Fights are back in the UFC as they will hold at least one title fight in the next four events and it all starts with the Light Heavyweight division. The Light Heavyweight division has been the most entertaining for years with other classes either not fighting, like the Heavyweights and Lightweights, or being dominated by one athlete, Welterweight and Middleweight. The Light Heavyweight division has not had a champion hold the belt for anymore than slightly over a year since Chuck Liddell held the belt for 770 days, defending the belt 4 times. Since Liddell the belt has been held by Quinton Jackson, Forrest Griffin, Rashad Evans, Lyoto Machida, Mauricio Rua, and now Jon Jones.
