New Fighter, Champion in Mexico City (UFC 180 Review)
The heavyweight division is one of the most popular in the UFC as it marks the biggest and strongest fighters in the UFC. The champion of the heavyweight division is always a superstar and that is true of Cain Velasquez. The only problem is that Velasquez has not fought since November 2013. A brief break and a series of injuries have kept the champion out of fights and have kept him on the sidelines and unable to defend his belt. The At UFC 180 Velasquez was finally supposed to return to the octagon where he would try to defend his belt against Fabricio Werdum in his father’s home country.

Another fight card has been changed by injury and as disappointing as it is for another new home of the UFC it has created another interesting fight. The UFC will go to Mexico for the first time ever as Mexico City hosts UFC 180. When the show was created there was a clear plan, as with any other new country, to feature big fighters from Mexico or with Mexican heritage. That was the idea when the UFC put Cain Velasquez on the card to defend his heavyweight title against Fabricio Werdum.
A Night of First in Japan (UFC Fight Night 52 Review)
The UFC travelled to Japan once again as they brought the show to where MMA got its start. They would feature a fighter that had spent his fair share of time in Japan while fighting through the early days of the sport. In those days there were really no other places to fight other than Japan. The country brought MMA to a new level, one that made the fighters superstars and paid them well. In the USA at the time MMA was still a basement bawl type of sport that got little recognition in the public.

The UFC will continue to showcase one of the most exciting divisions in the sport as two more heavyweights face-off in the octagon. Las weekend Andrei Arlovski announced his return to the division in beating Antonio Silva. For the win Arlovski moved up the rankings to #7 as he is ready to come for the title. He will have plenty to go through to get there though including the two heavyweights that will headline UFC Fight Night 52. Roy Nelson, ranked #8, and Mark Hunt, ranked #6, have been working their way up the rankings for a while now.

The UFC is beginning the end of another year of fights where they would travel to even more places and have more fights than ever before. With UFC Fight Night 33 marking the last free fight of the year the UFC would take one more trip this time to Australia. Australia has become a bit of a home away from home for the UFC with plenty of great fighters and an appetite for MMA.

Fighters have to navigate a minefield of fighters to put together enough wins to earn a title shot.
