Top Ten Sports Stories of 2012

It has been an incredible year for sports in 2012 with more than enough stories to look to and more than enough great accomplishments. The world of sports never ceases to impress and give us something that we have not seen before. Champions were crowned in all of the major sports after teams had slugged through long demanding season.

Olympic Update: Day 16 (The Olympic Wrap)

The London 2012 Olympics are now officially finished as the flame has been extinguished and the athletes begin to head home. The greatest sporting event of the year wrapped up in two wild weeks that featured amazing achievements and crushing disappointments. There have been amazing stories featuring the best athletes in the world and their quest for gold.

There is always a concentration on the Medal Table in the Olympics as fans look to see if their country is better at sports that others. The Olympics breed a competitive attitude and for many the overall medal leader is the goal to aim for. For others it is about a better finish than they are used to or medals in places that they expect.

The Olympics have always been a major undertaking for every city to host as an entirely new city plan is created and executed in the span of five years. There are always going to be places where the host city can easily put a number of events but more often than not the city needs to create a number of new venues.

Olympic Update: Day 13

As the London 2012 Games enter the last few days athletes continue to earn gold medals and continue to inspire a generation of future athletes. The performances and moments will live for generations for some as they remember the heroes of a country. The games will not completely end on Sunday though as a host of other athletes are making their way to London.

When fans sit down to watch the Olympics there are not always the popular sports to watch forcing many people to watch sports that they may never watch. This is one of the greatest parts of the Olympics as sports fans are exposed to all types of sports that are jot among the usual program. In North America sports are ruled by the big four meaning that the NFL, MLB, NHL, and NBA dominate the sports columns and the airwaves.

There are many aspects to the Olympic Games but the IOC honours three main parts to the games at every opening ceremony. There are the athletes who compete and provide everyone with memorable moments and who keep the world watching for two weeks. Then there are the coaches who are the unsung heroes of the games and prepare their athletes to perform on the biggest stage.

The Olympics are always about the purity of sport and the amazing athletes that compete but no sports fan can help to make it a competition between countries. As people represent their countries in the biggest sporting event in the world the natural competition is between the athletes. In each competition these athletes represent their country and not only in that sport but for the entire Olympics.

Seven years before each Olympics Games a new host is named as a new city immediately begins to prepare for their chance to be on display for the world. One of the biggest things most see is a new plan come into effect as cities begin building. They begin building new stadiums and new infrastructure to get people to the stadiums.

Olympic Update: Day 7

With one week in the books for the London 2012 Olympics there has been plenty of excitement and controversy. For the first week of the games there was plenty to watch as many sports kicked off their games with a bang. Of course one of the focuses was in the pool as swimming once again took over week 1.
