The UFC would travel to Orlando for the first time ever and as is usual with a new city the UFC would put on a great card. The UFC on Fox 11 would see a number of contender fights that would go a long way to determining the next challengers for a number of different weight classes. It was an important time for a lot of fighters on the card and that included the two men in the main event. Travis Browne and Fabricio Werdum would face off for the #1 contender spot in the always competitive heavyweight division.

The sports world loves to compare the act of playing a sport to a battle and to war as the comparisons are constant. Every close game is considered a battle and players consider themselves entering a war when they get ready to play. It is a very common comparison and in some ways it is understood.

The UFC will once again return to a military base as they honour those men and women in the military with Fight for the Troops. For the UFC it is something that they have tried to be a part of the military world for years. They have tried to be a part of this world because the military world and the MMA world are natural friends which it is evident in the number of active and inactive members of the armed forces in the UFC ranks.

Women have had their place in MMA fighting in Strikeforce and Invicta FC for a long time before the UFC would create a women’s division. The UFC decided to add the women’s for a large part because of one fighter, Ronda Rousey, but also because the UFC is constantly changing. The UFC has become a major sport and all because they brought something different to the sports world.

Women fighting are is not a new thing in the MMA as many promotions including Strikeforce and Belator have been holding women’s fights for years. As women like Gina Carano began to enter into the pop culture world the UFC held fast on their stance against women fighting in the UFC. The opposition to women fighting in the promotion was not about an opposition to women participating but instead to the overall skill level of the fighters.
