2014 Stanley Cup Preview

The NHL is a league of two faces as they operate in two different countries with two very different attitudes towards the game. In Canada the sport borders on religion and the fans consistently want more teams to cheer for. This is where the strength of the league lies with the majority of Canadians teams doing very well including the Toronto Maple Leafs being valued at $1 billion in the latest Forbes study.

2013-14 NHL Preview: Pacific Division (Part 1)

The NHL continues to grow and despite many teams in the south struggling to get by there is one area that is not following suit with other non-traditional markets. The west coast of the USA, or more accurately California, was never a hockey market when the Los Angeles Kings entered the NHL in 1967. It was one of the first major expansions in the NHL and they would look to the West Coast to add two teams.

NHL Week in Review (April 28 – May 4)

The NHL Playoffs began this week in the NHL as the last game was played and the playoffs were set. With the start of the second season fans and analysts looked at all of the teams to see which teams looked like they could be the next Los Angeles Kings. There were the two favorites in the Chicago Blackhawks and the Pittsburgh Penguins who had run through every team on their way to the top of each conference.

NHL Week in Review (Opening Day)

Hockey is officially back with the lockout over and the 2013 season beginning on Saturday as players got back to hockey. It was a long time for this day to happen as the NHL and NHLPA were locked in a CBA dispute that seemed destined to end a season. The season would be saved at the last minute though as the two sides reached a deal and would begin the season with only 48 games to play until the playoffs.

You can call them the Kings

The Los Angeles Kings had high hopes at the beginning of the season after management spent over $100,000 on improving the team. Unfortunately for them when the season began they were nowhere near where they were hoping to be.

NHL Week in Review (June 3-9)

After the first three games in the finals the Stanley Cup ceremony seemed to be ready to go for the Kings. That was until the Devils finally got some breaks in the series and began getting the results they seemingly deserved. Through the first two games the Devils seemed to outplay the Kings at moments but could not get the breaks.

NHL Week in Review (May 27 – June 7)

The Stanley Cup finals this year was one of the least anticipated finals in recent years as the New Jersey Devils and Los Angeles Kings did not excite many people. The matchup had only happened once this year and there was very little history between them. Series tend to be more exciting when the teams know each other and have a history because the players have that little extra motivation to win.

Stanley Cup Preview

Sometimes it is best to go with your first instinct as a blogger that does predictions and I have learned this with the NHL season. In my 2011-12 season preview I predicted a Los Angeles vs. Philadelphia Stanley Cup Finals. I changed my tune though when it came to the playoffs as I then looked to a Nashville vs. Pittsburgh Finals.
