The old Pacific Division is much like the new Pacific division as the top teams from the West Coast remain the top teams in the Pacific. The California trio continue their dominance of the Pacific in a massive surge of California hockey. When the NHL decided to expand to the West Coast it was thought to be a terrible idea. The land of sunshine and beaches had no idea what hockey was and putting a pro team there was sure to fail.

The NHL would start an annual tradition in 2008 when they held the first ever Winter Classic in Buffalo. Ralph Wilson Stadium would play host to the first ever outdoor game in NHL history in a move to expose the NHL to a bigger crowd. It was a spectacle and it was a success so the NHL continued to hold these games. It has become a tradition that on New Year’s Day the NHL takes hold and puts on their biggest regular season game of the year.

The NHL season is still a young one and although some teams have emerged as great and others not so much there is more than enough time for everything to change. There are only 1.5 weeks gone in the season so far and plenty has already happened creating debate and discussion over many different subjects. Whether it is fire behind the bench from a coach, fighting, reporting locker room conversations, or which teams that have looked great and will remain great the NHL is full of great stories.
