The playoffs are here and as they started there was some potential for interesting games although that all gave way to the typical top teams who will be back competing for the medals for another year.

The host teams are about to end their tournament with only one having a chance to continue their tournament into the playoffs and a couple days to get that playoff spot.
The host nations are on different paths as they have started their tournaments in different ways with one giving their home fans something to cheer about and the other not a lot to cheer about.
Group A has some clear favourites but there are plenty of teams that can do some damage with some teams capable of launching some surprising upsets.

The IIHF World Championships will travel to a brand new city where the international body hopes to help grow the sport in the shadow of a new tournament that might just take another shot at the Worlds.

With the second round of the NHL playoffs coming to a close the World Championships are beginning a period of reinforcements as NHL players are making the move to the Worlds.

The round robin is beginning to wind down as teams have limited games left before the playoff rounds begin. Day 4 in the tournament marked a tie for teams to separate themselves and clear up the playoff picture before New Year’s Eve. December 31st marks the final day of the round robin and often marks the biggest games of the tournament. These New Year’s Eve games are generally between the two biggest teams in each group.

Day 3 was not a particularly active one for the World Juniors but it was a chance to send a message for the four teams in action. The Juniors are a tournament that brings a lot of excitement and yet is over so quickly. There is a short time between the start and end of the tournament and one game can change everything. Before teams know it they have found their way out of contention or played their way into contention.
