The NHL is set to begin the most important part of the regular season as the trade deadline approaches and marks the true beginning of the playoff race. It is the most exciting time in the regular season as teams look for their shot at the Stanley Cup. The competition is that much more when the playoff race begins as everyone knows the stakes have been raised. With the race coming close February becomes a positioning race as teams look to make improvements and get themselves in the right position before they start the playoff race already out of contention.

NHL Week in Review (February 1-7)

The NHL is getting closer to one of the busiest days in every season as the Trade Deadline is less than a month away. With the trade deadline looming the trade rumours start to develop and the phones of every GM begin to work in double time. Teams are all looking to unload players and build for the future or build for a playoff push. As they continue to look for those pieces of the puzzle teams get a lot more active and names begin to pop up about potential players that could be available.

2014-15 NHL Preview: Central Division

The Central division saw a facelift in 2013-14 and with the adjustment of teams it was expected that one would rule them all. The Chicago Blackhawks had been the rulers of the old Central division for years and have been Stanley Cup favourites for the same amount of time. They went into last year as favourites again to win a division with a lot of questions. They seemed like the only sure shot in the division that was full of young teams and unsure talent. Then the season started and a team that many thought as a rebuilding team began to take control of the division.

The realignment has been a big story in the preseason as new divisions mean new opponents and new rivalries. This change in alignment for the NHL would all come down to one thing as one team’s move would require a massive change. The Atlanta Thrashers were struggling in 2011 and instead of fighting two battles, Phoenix would go under NHL ownership, the NHL decided that they would give up.
