The trade deadline in many sports is one of the premiere events of the season as teams trade major pieces as they prepare for a playoff run or for a new season. In the MLB it is quickly becoming one of the most exciting times of the year, and at no better time with the league entering the dog days of summer. This year the day took on a new level as two top pitchers were on the block and their teams were ready to let them go.

The halfway point of the season has come and gone in the MLB season and for many teams that means they know where they are going to be at the end of the year. There are teams that have already lost their chance to make the postseason and others that are just waiting to clinch their divisions. There are also the many teams fighting to get enough wins to make the postseason right until the end of the season. That is where the Trade Deadline comes in as teams look to find that one piece to help them push over the top to make a run at the postseason.

The American League East has long been considered the best division in baseball as they have regularly seen teams at the top of the league. The division contains some of the most legendary teams in the MLB and every year they seem to be on top of the league. That can make it extremely difficult for teams to make a run at the top of the division. With the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox constantly winning the division the other teams find it hard to break through and win.

The MLB Postseason is through the first two rounds as four teams are ready to fight for the league championships and their spot in the World Series. The postseason has had surprises and great performances like any other postseason but one theme seems to be making itself known. Pitching in the regular season has been one of the hottest topics of debate with teams consistently limited pitch counts. Throughout the regular season managers would be wary of letting their top pitching talent put too much wear on their arm.

The MLB season finished up this week and once again it would go to the final day, plus one more, to figure out the postseason picture. The MLB season is a 162 game marathon that takes a full 6 months to finish and can be a real grind on players and on fans. There are points in the season where the long grind gets to players and fans in the Dogs Days of Summer.
