Daniel Cormier might not be the fan favourite but he continues to win and he will remain a champion if he remembers what got him the light heavyweight title and ignore the fans.

The hype around UFC 200 seemed to centre around rivalries that could come after the pay-per-view and after a disappointing night only one rivalry will be seen.

Heading into UFC 182 the talk concentrated on the rivalry between light heavyweight champion, Jon Jones and his challenger, Daniel Cormier. Both fighters did not like each other very much and they certainly didn’t hide it heading into the fight. With one fight between the two cancelled due to an injury to Jones there was plenty of time for fans to find out that these two fighters were happy to get in the octagon and beat each other up.

The UFC returns for another year of fights and they are kicking things off with what could be the biggest fight of the year. That is hard to say since it is also the first fight of the year and there is plenty of time for big matchups. What makes this possibly different from all of them is the true hate between the main event fighters. This fight was supposed to take place a lot earlier until everything seemed to go wrong for the UFC. First it was the rematch that everyone wanted to see as Jon Jones was set to defend his Light Heavyweight title against Alexander Gustafsson for the second time.

When the Bantamweight title fight was announced for UFC 173 a lot of people were wondering how the matchup could be made. Here was one of the best pound for pound fighters in the world defending his belt against a fighter with a 5-2 record. Renan Barao was undefeated for 9 full years and his opponent had only joined the UFC in 2011 and had a 1-1 record in his last two fights.
