The CIS Playoffs were in full swing this week as every conference would hold their semi-final matchups. It was time for the teams to play games that were more important than any games they had played. With a loss the season was over and with a win the season moved on for at least one more week. It was a chance for teams to take one more step towards the National Playoffs and the Vanier Cup.

In the CanWest this year it was a lot of the same story as one of the Big Four teams would return to the top. The Calgary Dinos have won the Hardy Trophy for the last five years and have been the most dominant team in the West. They would once again see themselves at the top of the CanWest standings as they go for their sixth straight title. This year their dominance was not as for sure as it used to be with some big players leaving the program including star running back Steven Lumbala.

The CIS season is getting down to the final week as conferences continue to figure everything out. Week 8 in the CIs saw the end to many playoff races as two conferences left no room and another conference finished its season. The fourth conference is the AUS though and they are still going strong. The Acadia Axemen have put themselves in the first place spot and will earn a bye through the first round.

Then there was one with the CIS season wrapping up for most of the conferences next week and the OUA this week there is only one undefeated team left. After the loss by Laval two weeks ago and a battle between Saint Mary’s and Montreal for a rules violation Calgary and Western were the only two teams left without a loss. This week that all changed as one of the two teams took their first loss on the season as the #1 ranked Western Mustangs lost in their final week of the regular season.
