Statements for the Champs (UFC 175 Review)

When Lyoto Machida entered the UFC in 2007 he was considered one of the greatest fighters in the light heavyweight division. He would enter the UFC with an undefeated record and a style that had never been seen before. He was a trailblazer in the octagon as he was the first fighter to bring karate into MMA. It has happened multiple times in the UFC where a fighter brings something so unique into the promotion that nobody can figure them out. It was the case when Royce Gracie brought BJJ into the UFC or when Tito Ortiz brought a wrestling ground and pound style to the promotion.

When you beat the man that most people consider to be the greatest fighter in UFC history a big target is painted on your back. That is the case for Chris Weidman as he would beat Anderson Silva not once but twice in 2013. It was long thought that Anderson Silva would never lose the title and that he would retire as the greatest champion in UFC history. Then came along Chris Weidman who would take full advantage of Silva’s mistakes and his cockiness. The first fight between the two would see Silva begin trying to goat Weidman into getting aggressive and making a mistake.

Thrilling End to a Great Year (UFC 168 Review)

The year in the UFC was set to end with a great card at UFC 168 as two titles were on the line in what promised to be a card to end the year right. More than that though these two title fights would be two of the most anticipated rematches of the year. Ronda Rousey would take on Meisha Tate in a rematch from Strikeforce with both fighters never really getting along. The most anticipated rematch though, was the rematch for the Middleweight title.

The UFC will be ending their year with a massive card and with it the reminders of an era gone by in 2013. The year began with what many would consider the most dominant group of champions ever assembled. A number of weight divisions would see their champions solidify their spot in 2012 and there did not seem to be much change coming.
