The London 2012 Olympics are now officially finished as the flame has been extinguished and the athletes begin to head home. The greatest sporting event of the year wrapped up in two wild weeks that featured amazing achievements and crushing disappointments. There have been amazing stories featuring the best athletes in the world and their quest for gold.

As the London 2012 Games enter the last few days athletes continue to earn gold medals and continue to inspire a generation of future athletes. The performances and moments will live for generations for some as they remember the heroes of a country. When fans sit down to watch the Olympics there are not always the popular sports to watch forcing many people to watch sports that they may never watch. This is one of the greatest parts of the Olympics as sports fans are exposed to all types of sports that are jot among the usual program. In North America sports are ruled by the big four meaning that the NFL, MLB, NHL, and NBA dominate the sports columns and the airwaves.

The Olympics have been a tale of two sports for the average fan as two specific places get most of the attention. The track and the pool are always the most popular parts of the Olympics and for week 1 the focus is on the pool. The popularity of the pool has a lot to do with the fact that these swims are simply races with no complicated rules.

The Olympics are now underway as the world lay witness to the first day of the London 2012 Olympics. Like many of the Olympic Games Day 1 saw a number of athletes begin and end their Olympic Games with their medal events happening immediately.
