The UFC would open their new home with UFC Fight Night 26 as the UFC would put together a great card to debut Fox Sports 1. It was another move for the UFC as they would essentially gain their own channel on a major network. Although the UFC is not the only part to the new sports network there is a reason why Fox decided to open up with a day of UFC leading up to UFC Fight Night 26. The UFC is still on the fringe of sports with many people still wary of the sport that pays people to beat each other up.

There was never a more appropriate walk out song than Ilir Latifi’s at UFC on Fuel TV 9 when “Eye of the Tiger” came blaring over the speakers at the Ericsson Globe arena. The song from Rocky would perfectly express the situation that Latifi found himself in as he had quickly been crowned the Swedish Rocky. Only a few days ago Latifi was not on the radar of many UFC fans as he continued to train and fight for a number of smaller promotions.

The UFC have had more free events this year than ever and the majority of them have been better than the Pay-per-Views. This week the UFC went back to their free fight as they continued to look for recovery after cancelling UFC 151.

The UFC made more travel plans this past weekend as the biggest show in MMA ended a 4 week layoff by going to Stockholm, Sweden. It was yet another country for the UFC to try and take in the MMA world and they did just that.

UFC 138 did not receive much media in the months leading up to the fight with UFC on Fox taking a lot of the focus. UFC on Fox is a big promotion for the UFC and it has rightly gotten a lot of media time with two heavyweights fighting and the premiere of UFC on network television. The issue with the media going to UFC on Fox is that the media was not on the fantastic card that would be featured in Birmingham, England this past Saturday.

The month of October is over and so the winter sports take over TV with football and hockey dominating the sports channels. The NFL is through their halfway mark and the second half will start off much like the first half with Baltimore taking on Pittsburgh in a big division rivalry. Meanwhile NCAA football will have their biggest game so far between the #1 and #2 teams in the nation that will go a long way to determining the National Championship.

There has been little to no focus on UFC 138 with a lot of media concentrated on the UFC on Fox fight for the Heavyweight Title. With the first UFC on FOX taking the concentration many people might not even think about this fight. That would be a big mistake as UFC 138 in England looks to be an explosive card. With a host of English fighters filling out the card and the main event featuring two fighters known for their KOs this fight card looks very good.
