The Atlantic Division is one of the biggest division in the league and that is largely due to the fact that there are more eyes on these team than any other in the NHL putting plenty of pressure to compete on every team in the division.

The Red Wings will enjoy their new division as they finally get the move they wanted to the Eastern Conference. Although they will be one of the big stories in the realignment it is not the only one for the new Atlantic Division. Joining the Toronto Maple Leafs, Montreal Canadiens, and Boston Bruins the Detroit Red Wings will be a part of a truly Original Six division.

The Atlantic Division is the powerhouse of the NHL but not for their play on the ice as they are much better known for what they do off of the ice. The Atlantic Division is one of the biggest reasons that the NHL made $3.3 Billion last season. This division features some of the biggest franchises in the USA and teams that have some big followings.

The Atlantic Division is one of the up and downs as teams have been dominant at one point and less than so other years. Last year the dominance continued to shift to Pennsylvania and far away from the New York area. Last year the battle continued between the in state rivals in Pittsburgh and Philadelphia. The Pens and Flyers battled it out to a tie at the end of the season that gave the Flyers the division and the Penguins the 4 spot in the Eastern Conference.
