The UFC almost saw another weight cutting issue blow-up a card as it remained a big issue but in the end the rematch that people were waiting for just led to a more confusing future for the Light Heavyweight division.
Daniel Cormier might not be the fan favourite but he continues to win and he will remain a champion if he remembers what got him the light heavyweight title and ignore the fans.
Ryan Bader took his five-fight win streak to New Jersey while stepping up in competition against the #2 fighter in the division, Anthony Johnson.
The light heavyweight division should be an interesting this year and the story will all start when two top contenders face-off at UFC on FOX 18.
It was a busy night for the UFC as five divisions were all on display as top fighters had chances for title fights and two titles were on the line.
It is a busy weekend for the UFC as two title races will be solved while two more divisions see some of their top fighters put themselves in title contention.
The Light Heavyweight division is in a bit of a flex area right now as champion Jon Jones continues to recover from his reported drug issues. After his title fight against Daniel Cormier a drug test taken earlier in the week came to light with trace amounts of cocaine. That drug test had Jones admit himself to a drug treatment facility. That didn’t reportedly last too long though as he checked himself out of rehab after one day.
The UFC is on a roll through their first few events of 2015 as they continue to put on fights with top contenders. It all started with a light heavyweight title fight that Jon Jones won to retain his belt and continued with a superstar featherweight in Conor McGregor earning a title shot against Jose Aldo. Now those two things get matched together in the first fight of the year on FOX.
A lot of times in the UFC there are fighters who come into the promotion with plenty of hype and rise up to become contenders almost immediately. These fighters can win only a few fights and if they are impressive wins can get a title shot in almost no time. It has happened time and time again with fighters seemingly bolting up the rankings for a title shot. For some it is not fair as they need to prove themselves but many times they are the best fighters in the division. That causes them to get plenty of talk surrounding them which is how they earn their shots to begin with.
Sometimes the UFC can put on fights that are interesting but do not get anyone excited because they don’t know what to expect. Those fights are necessary for the continuation of the UFC in finding new contenders by putting them under pressure in televised events. Many times they can produce great fights unexpectedly and other times they can produce a card that has no big moments. That has tended to be the case for many of the televised events recently as the UFC has not been able to put on very exciting fights.
