It seemed for the longest time that the wild card team would always be the runner-up in the AL East. The winner would also be a favorite to win the World Series every year. It became the toughest division in baseball with great teams all fighting for a spot in the playoffs and a few falling through the cracks.

With 162 games a year losing or winning in the first few months means little unless you can extend that into the middle of the season.

The MLB is not a fan of change as they have fought against changing many parts of the game in order to preserve their connection to history. One of the biggest issues in the MLB is the fact that they refuse to change the aspect of human error.
