The AFC Norther was always about the defence but things are changing as offence is taking over and the top team in the division is the leader in the offensive revolution of the North.

The AFC north always provides a good battle for division supremacy but some teams are beginning to falter and although the battle should be great this year there may be one team that stands out among the rest.

The AFC North had an off year in 2015 with less of a battle than usual but expect that to change in 2016 with more teams looking to challenge for the division title.

It wasn’t so long ago that the AFC North was one of the most dominant divisions in the NFL and one of the most difficult to break through. The Pittsburgh Steelers and Baltimore Ravens ruled the North winning 9 of 11 division titles since the creation of the AFC North division in 2002. There was rarely a year where Pittsburgh or Baltimore were not favourites to make the playoffs and many times they were favourites to win the Super Bowl, and made good on that prediction.

The AFC North is on the same type of path as the NFC West except they are a step ahead as they are the toughest division in football. Most good divisions have two good teams while the other two struggle. This continues on year after year as teams fall and team rise there always seem to be two good and two bad teams. That is not true in the AFC North as they have gone from a typical division to the toughest. There are not only two teams that can win this division but instead there are three teams with another on their way up.

NFL Divisions all can generally be the same as some conferences are tougher and some are easier but all are relatively similar. The AFC North is not one of the divisions though as the North division has its own attitude all together. The AFC North is one of the toughest divisions in the league and the toughness is more than just the amount of competition in the division.

The NFL is entering the last part of their season as the playoff picture begins to form and the top teams are shown. Something funny has happened this season as it has been as unpredictable as most seasons but there is a predictable trend starting. The NFL has been a pretty even league the past years as different teams have been the strongest. The strength of both conferences has been located in the eastern divisions for years as they have become the toughest divisions to win.

The AFC North has been known for the great defence in the division including the two top teams. Pittsburgh and Baltimore have a reputation for have very stingy defences that shut down every offence they face. The Steelers have the best tradition as they harken back to the time of the Steel Curtain defence. The Ravens have created a reputation with their two veterans that are bound to enter the Hall of Fame in the future. Ray Lewis and Ed Reed have made a defence to be feared. Both the Pittsburgh Steelers and Baltimore Ravens have battled for the top spot for years as the two teams from Ohio struggle to keep up.
