Defensive statistics have come a long way since the beginnings of the NFL but they are still a strange part of the game. Defensive statistics are a little different as they are, more often than not, subjective.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have a storied history and but it has been storied for all of the wrong reasons. The start of the franchise came during the 1976 expansion as they came in at the same time as the Seattle Seahawks. The Bucs made an immediate impact when they chose their uniforms with a bright orange, some would say creamsicle, colour jersey. It is another step towards kickers getting respect in a game that sees them as secondary. Kickers have always been a different part of the NFL, sitting on the outside of the game and being seen as less than football players.

In the 1990s the game was changing in the NFL as the shift that has now taken over the NFL was beginning to take shape. Before the 1990s the league remained a running back driven league with teams looking to take over on the ground. In the 1990s it was still running back driven but all of a sudden new quarterbacks that could take over a game were coming into focus. Pivots like Brett Favre, Dan Marino, Troy Aikman, Warren Moon, and Steve Young were taking over the game and showing what a good quarterback can bring to a team
