Realignment has been a main subject in all of the previews and in many of the looks ahead to the upcoming season. Although the divisions get a lot of the attention the one thing that has rarely been the topic of discussion yet is the new playoff format for the league. With new division comes a new balance of teams with 7 teams in each of the Western Conference divisions and 8 teams in the Eastern Conference divisions.

It didn’t take too long for hockey fans to see that the 2013 Stanley Cup Finals was going to be a classic series. The first game between the Chicago Blackhawks and Boston Bruins would set the standard going to triple overtime to solve Game 1. When the Bruins and Blackhawks first made the finals hockey fans began to salivate immediately.

The NHL has made it through their strange season this year in a year that started with a lockout and finished with a 48 game season. The Playoffs are now here though and the regular season is behind the teams as the march to the Stanley Cup begins. The strange part of the year won’t stop at the regular season though as teams fight to be the champion of a shortened season.
