NHL Week in Review (Opening Day)

Hockey is officially back with the lockout over and the 2013 season beginning on Saturday as players got back to hockey. It was a long time for this day to happen as the NHL and NHLPA were locked in a CBA dispute that seemed destined to end a season. The season would be saved at the last minute though as the two sides reached a deal and would begin the season with only 48 games to play until the playoffs.

The NHL season seemed all but doomed at the beginning of the year with the January 11th deadline fast approaching. It seemed as though the NHL had decided on another lost season but in the last minute they would come to an agreement. The NHL season was saved and hockey would return as fans rejoiced and many NHL teams breathed a sigh of relief.

Time for Puck Drop

The NHL and NHLPA have consistently sent some mixed messages over the last few months and the media has not helped. There have been some close calls in recent weeks where reports surfaced that the NHL and NHLPA may have finally come to a deal. Many of these reports would be false as the NHL lockout would continue on and close in on another cancelled season.
