Canadian sports have been nailed down to one season and one sport and has been this way for years. The Canadians have never been considered a summer sport nation and have seen hockey as the true Canadian sport. This has been the case for decades with Canadians taking ownership of hockey and winter sports as their own and using it as a sense of pride.

The Saskatchewan Roughriders would have a unique opportunity coming in to the 101st Grey Cup. It was not as if it had never happened before as the last two Grey Cups would see the exact same opportunity for two teams. This time it was different though as the Riders would have the chance to win the Grey Cup in front of some of the most loyal fans in the CFL.

The 101st Grey Cup may not have the history behind it that the 100th Grey Cup did but there are plenty of great stories before the game begins. The 100th Grey Cup was all about the long and storied history of the CFL but for the 101st Grey Cup the stories would come from the teams themselves. Saskatchewan Roughriders and the Hamilton Tiger-Cats will bring plenty to talk about when they face off in Regina this weekend.

The CFL continues to surprise time and time again as teams continue to rise and fall as the season is just getting started. There is always one thing that most seasons will see in the CFL though as the passing game is truly something special. It is the real passing league in North America as 4,000 yard passing seasons are more the benchmark than the exception.

The Grey Cup will travel to one of the most loyal and loud fan bases in the CFL when they go to Regina in November. After last year’s celebration of the history of the Grey Cup with the 100th Grey Cup in Toronto the CFL will highlight what the league can be to a community. The Saskatchewan Roughriders are a team that represents the success a franchise can have in a community.

Last year the Canadian Football League would look to the past for inspiration throughout the year. Nobody could blame them either as it marked the 100th anniversary of the Grey Cup. The entire season was a celebration of the history of the CFL with the Grey Cup returning to Toronto where it was first handed out and bringing a hall of fame tour throughout Canada.
