UFC 225 Preview
UFC 225 is a card so stacked with talent that it is hard to talk about all of the stories that are involved throughout the event.
There are big names and stories from the first fight up to the main event but it is also one of the strangest cards.
There are massive names fighting on the prelims just looking to continue to be relevant in the ever-evolving UFC.
Fighters like Clay Guida and Rashad Evans were once some of the biggest names in the UFC and now both will fight on the prelims looking to take a win.
Both are closer to the end of their careers than the beginning and another loss for either could be it for their legendary careers in the UFC.
The preliminaries aren’t just for those looking to stay relevant though as some big fights with big implications.
Claudia Gadelha looks to become the next strawweight title contender by beating former champ Carla Esparza.
Two of the top Flyweights in the world look to make their case for a shot against Demetrious Johnson as Sergio Pettis and Joseph Benavidez face each other.
To end the prelims Alistair Overeem looks to continue his time as one of the best by earning a big win over an up and coming Curtis Blaydes.
All of that is just on the preliminary card without even talking about the main fights on the night there is enough to fill a card.
The pay-per-view section of the card just gets bigger and slightly stranger especially with how it starts.
The first fight could possibly be the worst match-up that the UFC has ever put on and yet it remains the first fight on pay-per-view.
CM Punk came into the UFC with no experience and his first fight was a disaster as he was easily handled by Micky Gall.
That 0-1 former WWE superstar will take on the 0-1 Mike Jackson who has just slightly more experience in MMA.
The UFC rarely even signs fighters with losing records let alone two fighter who have never won an MMA fight but that is how the main card will begin at UFC 225.
After that fight things ramp up as legend Andrei Arlovski looks to fend off father time against Tai Tuivasa, a man with 9 wins and 9 knockouts and is beginning to move up the heavyweight rankings.
Then comes a much-anticipated debut of Megan Anderson who is considered potentially the only fighter that can give Cyborg a real fight.
Unfortunately, the match-up that everyone wanted to see isn’t happening as instead, Anderson gets Holly Holm in her debut.
It is far from an easy match-up but it is a chance to show whether or not Anderson can potentially challenge the greatest female fighter ever.
Then come the championships to finish off the night with two very interesting title fights in what hope to be caps to an exciting night.
First up is the interim Welterweight title between a former champ that has found new life and one of the loudest young fighters in the UFC.
Rafael Dos Anjos was once thought to be an unbeatable lightweight champion but lost his title to Eddie Alvarez and then took a second straight loss against Tony Ferguson.
His time in the lightweight division seemed to be over but he made a switch to a heavier weight class and has looked like his old self once again.
He will take on Colby Covington who has a ton of skill, especially in wrestling but has essentially insulted his way to the title shot.
After insulting the entire country of Brazil, Joe Rogan and tweeting out spoilers to some of the biggest movies in theatres he has become one of the most hated fighters in the UFC.
He is also one of the most talked about fighters and so he gets his shot at an interim belt with the reward being a shot against Tyron Woodley.
To finish off a night full of stories there is a rematch that will have a lot more on the line this time around.
Robert Whittaker looks to defend his middleweight belt for the first time after a serious injury sidelined him for almost a year.
He takes on Yoel Romero who he beat for the interim title just about a year ago which eventually became the main title.
Romero gets his shot to get the win back but last time Whittaker beat him with a unanimous decision and was fighting on one leg most of the fight.
It doesn’t bode well for Romero but the Cuban wrestler is still one of the best so he has a shot at getting that title.
UFC 225 is a card so packed with stories that there aren’t many fights that people don’t want to see, even it is just for the circus factor.
It is a card that everyone wants to see a lot more of as it is a card that is great for both the diehards and the casual fans.
